Hi All,
Me and my wife are traveling to India. We are going for visa re-stamping (consular processing).
Based on the information provided below, can you provide lists of forms/docs that we're supposed to carry with us when we visit the consulate for stamping?

- I entered on H1B. Then I had to change employer so visa was transfered (And they extended it for another 2.5years). So now I have a H1B visa which is valid till June 2009, and passport with expired H1B stamp.
- With the new employer - I've an approved PERM. I140 is pending. I485 is filed. EAD received. Do I need to take approval notices and/or receipt notices of any/all of these stages?
My Wife's visa:
- she entered on H4. Now she has a H1B visa which is valid up 2010, and passport with expired H4 stamp.
Is she required to take approval notices and/or receipt notices of i485.. or my PERM or i140?

I got the Receipt Notice for the 140...I sent my 140-485-765 on June 30, reached Nebraska on July 2...my file was sent to Texas and July 12 they sent the Receipt Notice for the 140 ...I hope that after they changed the visa bulletin on July 17, I will receive the rest of the Receipts...

We just applied for a student loan and got approved. Here are a few things we found out during the course of applying for the loan.
The only difference between you applying while on H1 vs. as PR/Citizen are the interest rates. Also if you are a PR/Citizen you qualify for a federal Stafford loan, which has the least interest rate and the best terms.
If you are on H1 and you can get a PR/Citizen as a co-signer you can qualify for other private loans with lower interests than without a co-signer. The only issue with having a co-signer is that it their credit report is going to reflect the loan and could impact their credit worthiness.
You [& co-signer] will have to send documents proving you are legal in this country. You need to fax - first page of passport, H1 approval, PR card [if you claim you are a PR]
PS: Not all companies give Student loans to Non-Citizens or Non-PR's. While on H1 the best deal we found was at http://www.accessgroup.org/

245i applicants ( the people who were out of status) were allowed to file for adjustment of status under LIFE ACT of year 2000 passed by congress. There were no additional Immigrant visas approved for these applications and they are being issued visas from the regular quota.

Mike Huckabee is fast emerging as the leading Republican Presidential Candidate, and has a commanding lead in Iowa.
While all other leading Repub contenders: McCain, Guiliani, Romney and Thompson, have expressed support for strengthening and increasing high skilled immigration, not much was known about Huckabee as he was in State Government previously.

I met a US citizen of Indian origin who came to US in 1991 on a tourist visa and in those days, they managed to get green cards - dunno how. He never visited India. Got married here and still visualizes India as how it was in 80s.

You made a good point...US media highlights issues based on what it likes and presents it to the people the way they want it to be. US hates 'Ahmedinejad' so they are highighting the opponents..as if the opponent would have been any different for the US..US Media standards reached a new low with their double-standards in covering the Iranian election protests. Looks like US media wants to manipulate their citizens with one-sided information and only those news that media DECIDES are in the interest of the people.

I need your input.
My PD was Feb 2006-EB2.
I changed job on June 22nd to another company using EAD. Now the PD has become current for Aug.My old company and the new company are in different cities but it is the same state.
I was planning to apply for AC-21 but i have not gotten consistent pay checks yet. My first check was a partial check. I will have 2 consistent paychecks by Aug 15th.
1) Is it safe to just wait and see if i get a 485 approval without alerting USCIS about my job change?
I am thinking since the job change is very recent they might not know about this job change.
2) If they denied my 485 application for any reason ,can i continue to work while i apply for "reconsidering my 485 application" and file AC-21 with the new company?
Please advice what you think about this. Basically i am trying to "not rock the boat" and raise suspicion and more RFEs by notifying them about this very recent change.

Answer for Punjabi's question-
My old employer is a very small body shopping company and so far he was never successful for finding me any client/project. I have to find the client by myself. Now, me getting married in the next few months, I have an additional responsibility to take care of. If I join him, with the current market condition, if he is not able to find any client I don't want to sit on bench for few weeks/months without getting paid (especially when you are newly married, you have more expenses than being single) and keep moving once in few months to different places with the family.
Also, he pays the paycheck only when the client pays to him. So every time there will be a gap of 45 days where I need to wait for the paycheck.
I have been at this Employer as permanent for the last 3 years and they know what I can do and they keep giving me new project/responsibility to take care of & also the chances of growth is more. If I work as a consultant, I need to keep thinking will my client extend my contract after 5~ 6 months....or not ???? what if I get a project with the lesser billing rate etc etc...
Last but not least, my old employer does not provide a good medical/health/Dental insurance + benefits. I get all these stuffs with my current employer.
With considering all these points, I'm planning to stick on to the current employer and apply for the new GC process.

People need to understand that there are some legislators who might want to push legislation favorable to us. They can only do it if they can convince other legislators who are on the fence that:
1) A lot of good people are affected by this. (legal,peaceful,high skilled etc) The crowd there(YOU) on Tuesday will speak to this.
2) They mean business, if we do not act they might leave and we need to act NOW to keep them here.(if many thousands of them can come from all parts of the country, they must be serious)
3) These guys have the support of their employers.(they got/took/were allowed time off from work)
Now in these points, can you see how a friendly lawmaker can use a big successful march to convince his colleagues? This will be like a massive tonic to all the lobbying IV has been doing behind the scenes.
Last year when hundreds of thousands of illegal immigrants took to the streets did you see the impact on legislators? One big difference here is we are legal. That will leave a more powerful impact if it is big.
This is a small price to pay, and it will help you tremendously to speed up the green card process. Lets show solidarity. Every one of us who goes to this will feel proud of the change we manage to bring. If this makes the national media in a big way, I am virtually certain we will get a favorable resolution to our issues. A lot of forces are with us here. Just look at the 13 governor signed letter. Just look at how hard the big high tech. companies are pushing this.

Have you printed out the name of the file that was selected to make sure that that part is working? It seems like you've only done a minimal amount of debugging to determine the nature of the problem, so I would recommend starting with that.
